TEDx is a non-profit organization whose mission is to inspire people with shared ideas and talks . We selected 5 TEDs on science, from different locations around the world, so you can see that doing science is not as difficult as it seems! 1 – How to combine Science, Education and Innovation? Who would have thought that the experience we do, still at school, of planting beans in a plastic cup with cotton could transform our lives? Not sure how? Rubem Saldanha shows that knowledge and science can drive change in the lives of young people, allowing them to discover new places and be recognized for their work! 2 – How to use science to study prejudice One day, Airi heard the following sentence: “The problem is that, in Brazil, poverty has a color.” From then on, in her doctoral thesis, she tries to make science contribute to the understanding of prejudice and the reduction of racial discrimination. To do this, he uses a scientific method that surprises everyone: after all, do you prefer white or black children? 3 – Science can answer moral questions! Science deals with facts, morality is something separate.
This is what we learn from an early age in schools, correct? Sam Harris proves otherwise! He shows, in a somewhat unusual way, that science can indeed be responsible for the construction of our moral values! 4 – Science in everyday life Do you know what differentiates science from other subjects? It changes every moment! Therefore, we have the result of more than 1 million scientific publications over the course of 1 year! But why is science so complicated? Diego Golombek shows that, if we used the perspective of science in our daily lives, it would become much easier and more DM Databases attractive! 5 – Children will live on Mars and, thus, they will survive. In this TEDx talk, Stephen Petranek shows that we need to uncover science, explore new paths and, amazingly, go live on Mars!Formulate the answer in your head, respond calmly and don't despair! 6 – Don’t read the slides Reading the slide is sometimes a great temptation – which can also compromise your entire oral presentation.
The slide must have phrases, short texts and/or keywords that will help you when defending your work. Only read in cases of quotations or if you really feel completely blank at the time due to nervousness. The slide should serve to “guide” your presentation and not to be your WHOLE presentation. Use it as an “insights” tool, that is, as something that helps you remember the topic you should talk about. 7 – Rest and eat well In oral presentations of work, the body can speak louder! Nervous, you can't sleep and eat well the day before and on the day of the presentation, so what happens? You start to break out in a cold sweat, feel dizzy, your blood pressure drops and you are on the verge of a nervous breakdown! To prevent this chaos from happening, ensure you get a good rest and preferably eat light foods. Sometimes we stop eating because of nervousness and this only makes the situation worse! I know it's complicated, but you need to eat and sleep well, okay.
